Search and Cortana are divided into taskbars
The seventh Windows 10 update will split Search and Cortana into the taskbar. This change has long been requested by users from countries in which the Cortana voice assistant is available. Now, when you select a search line in the taskbar, a system search will be launched, and when you select the Cortana icon, the personal assistant will wait for your voice commands. Search and Cortana settings were also divided and correspond to different group policies.
Improved reliability and stability of the Start menu
Under the Start menu in Windows 10, there is a separate process called StartMenuExperienceHost.exe. Previously, the Start menu was processed by the ShellExperienceHost.exe process. This change will simplify debugging, relieve the Start menu from potential problems in other parts of the Windows 10 shell, and improve reliability and stability. In addition, Microsoft has implemented improvements to reduce the launch time of the Start menu.
Installing Fonts by Drag and Drop
You can use the drag and drop feature in Windows Explorer to move fonts to the modern fonts page in the Options application to set them. After installation, select the font to view the various faces and get acquainted with the detailed information. Font removal is available on the page with detailed information.
Simplified customization of the Windows Insider program
Microsoft has simplified the settings page for the Windows Insider Pre-Evaluation Program (Settings > Update and Security > Windows Pre-Evaluation Program). You will now be able to switch between different update channels in the section “Select the parameters of the preliminary assessment program”.
The Windows console received a few fixes for working with text, working with GitHub, colors, resizing, scrolling, fonts, etc.
Pre-build at this stage of testing includes a large list of bugs as well as fixes – including three issues that were fixed in the cumulative update KB4487181 (Build 18312.1007).
A full list of improvements, changes and known bugs is available in the official announcement on the Microsoft website.
